I reached Mam Fauzia's place at 5 am to oversee the packaging and distribution of goods. The rest of the team, 3 more student volunteers arrived within the hour and we got cracking. Once all the sorting was done we started off on our journey. We went to Charsaddah , Pashtun Gari and two schools in Tangi where not only did we distribute packaged food items for the kids , but Eid clothes aswell.Mam Fauzia had also brought along prizes and goodie bags , and after a reading competition we distributed gifts and prizes to the children. It was heartwarming to see these children who had lost everything , still eager to read and write.Their appetite for learning couldn't be quashed no matter how dire the circumstances. We did aftari on the motorway where we met other volunteer teams and groups from all over Pakistan .Special thanks to Babar for the delicious Chappal Kabab he had delivered to us from his village .A year later and that was the best Chappal Kabab I've eaten to date! .We came back late at night and were barely able to say goodbye to one another we were so exhausted. It was a very memorable day and I'm grateful i got to be a part of it. Those of us who were strangers at 5:30 am were definitely friends by the night.
Hope you enjoy the pictures and the spirit of the amazing citizens of Pakistan. We so often complain about what our people are lacking and are so caught up in criticizing and bringing each other down , we forget to remember how great the ordinary person really is.
The last two images are of a few of us opening our aftari!(fast).Yes I know, I had the stamina to click away even then , and they obliged me with small smiles.
